Resilience, rendered with care
In a time of overlapping crises, our design approach centered clarity, resilience, and radical hope. The report stands as a tool of accountability—and a testament to collective strength.
Introduction
We were honored to design this report—bringing together powerful movement stories, global impact data, and the unwavering feminist ethos that Womankind embodies.

Design Objectives
- Visually communicate resilience, clarity, and courage amidst crisis.
- Prioritize accessibility and emotional readability.
- Reflect the diversity of Womankind’s partners and contexts.
- Create a balance between narrative storytelling and clear reporting.
Our Approach
Rather than lead with hardship, the report leads with movement strength. Our design mirrored this by:
- Using bold headlines and full-page quote spreads to elevate partner voices.
- Designing with warmth and strength—soft tones contrasted with deep purples and fiery reds.
- Interspersing storytelling layouts with data to maintain momentum and accessibility.
2. Feminist Visual Language
- Color palette: Earthy neutrals, coral, violet, mustard, and soft grey to balance energy and calm.
- Typography: A humanist sans-serif typeface chosen for clarity, softness, and approachability.
- Iconography and callouts: Custom shapes inspired by protest banners, handwritten signs, and intersectional motifs.
We created visual consistency across spreads while allowing each section—such as country updates or financials—to retain its own unique visual rhythm.
3. Navigating Complexity with Clarity
From country-specific snapshots to financial summaries, the report contained a wide range of content types.

We designed:
- Custom infographics and charts to make grantmaking and impact data accessible.
- Chapter openers with country-specific color accents and photographs.
- Testimonial callouts framed like story cards, with emphasis on tone and personhood.
Featured Sections
- “Still here. Still strong.” intro spread: A double-page opening with a full-bleed image and an energizing message from the executive director.
- Partner Profiles: Layouts that uplift grassroots voices from Nepal, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and beyond.
- Adapting During Crisis: A section visualizing how Womankind shifted programming in response to the pandemic—designed with timeline visuals and layered narrative highlights.
- Finance + Accountability: Simplified visual breakdowns of income, spending, and sources to keep transparency front and center.

Impact & Reception
- The report was praised by partners and funders for being human, hopeful, and honest.
- Several collaborators noted how it felt like an “extension of feminist activism”—not just another annual document.
- It has been shared as a model for values-led reporting in feminist and social justice networks.
