Celebrating Feminist Legacy
To capture the essence of their historic struggle and the unwavering determination that continues to drive their activism today
What we set out to do
Marijàn Ayiti, a feminist organization, contacted us to create an illustration and layout design for a heartfelt love letter dedicated to the Haitian feminist movement. This project was a tribute to the resilience, courage, and ongoing struggle of Haitian women and girls fighting for their rights and freedoms.
Our goal was to design a layout and illustration that not only complements the powerful words of the letter but also visually represents the spirit of the Haitian feminist movement.
Essence of their historic struggle and the unwavering determination
The letter begins by addressing all women and girls of Haiti, recognizing their shared heritage and collective struggle for freedom and equality.
Recounting the pivotal moment on April 3, 1986, when over 30,000 Haitian women marched to demand their rights, marking a new era of hope and resistance.
This historic protest is celebrated as a defining moment in the Haitian feminist movement. The letter pays tribute to the pioneers of the movement and acknowledges the contemporary challenges faced by Haitian women, from patriarchal norms to climate justice. It emphasizes the need for continued activism and solidarity.
A powerful call to action is made, urging current and future generations to persist in the fight for gender equality and social justice. The letter concludes with a promise to continue the struggle, honoring the legacy of those who came before and inspiring those who will follow.
This project was a profound opportunity to contribute to a cause that aligns with our studio’s values of social justice and empowerment. By creating an illustration and layout for this love letter, we aimed to amplify the voices of Haitian women and celebrate their indomitable spirit.

Key Design Elements
Illustration:
The central illustration features diverse Haitian women, symbolizing unity and strength. We depicted women of various ages and backgrounds to represent the inclusivity and solidarity of the movement.
Elements of Haitian culture and heritage were incorporated, such as traditional attire and symbols of resistance, to honor the rich history and identity of the Haitian feminist struggle.
Color Palette:
We used bold and vibrant colors that reflect the energy, resilience, and hope of the movement. The palette was carefully chosen to evoke emotions of empowerment and solidarity.
Layout:
The layout was designed to be clean and organized, ensuring that the text flows seamlessly and is easy to read. We included ample white space to give the words room to breathe, allowing the message to resonate deeply with the reader.
